National Pet Day Spin Routine

Welcome to Spin Routine of the Week, a free, weekly newsletter by Every Tuesday, you’ll get a class-tested, instructor-approved spin routine delivered to your inbox to help you find inspiration as you plan your next class. This week, we have a animal and pet themed spin routine and playlist to celebrate National Pet Day. Don’t miss a week! Sign up here.

This week’s challenge? Coming up with a themed spin routine and playlist about pets or animals.

There are at least four animal-themed holidays next week:

  • April 8: National Zoo Lovers Day
  • April 10: National Farm Animals Day & National Hug Your Dog Day
  • April 11: National Pet Day
  • April 12: Walk On Your Wild Side Day

Turns out there are so many great songs that reference pets and animals that this was TOO EASY! Enjoy!

Reminder: I like to teach my spinning classes in a series of exercises that we do 2-4 times through. I pick a couple exercises to make up the series, and we stick to it throughout the class. That way, participants know what to expect, so they can go big when they’re supposed to and not hold back for fear of another interval around the corner.

The Series (60-minute Routine)

Here’s the series — do it four times through.

  • Song 1: Climb. Start at moderate intensity. (Build in recovery time here, as needed.) Add resistance and/or increase speed to increase intensity, ending the song at a VERY hard intensity.
  • Song 2: Jumps.
  • Song 3: Breathless at chorus. Find a comfortable, moderate intensity throughout the song. At the chorus, find breathless intensity.
